Forefront Arts Summer Drama Camps For Ages 4-18

Forefront Arts Drama Camps

From Superheroes action camp to Beauty & the Beast musical theatre camp, every child can boost their confidence and creativity this summer! Every Forefront Arts summer drama camp culminates in a public performance.

Recently, I asked Forefront Arts “what is the one thing you want Cumming Local readers to know about the Forefront Arts Summer Drama Camps?” Their answer was simple – “that we have something for everyone this year.” And it’s true! Whether your child is male or female, preschooler or tween, interested in drama or already in drama – there is a perfect drama camp for your child.

Forefront Arts Summer Drama Camps have multiple camp locations including Roswell, Alpharetta, Cumming, Johns Creek, Suwanee, Buford, and Hamilton Milll!

*NEW THIS YEAR: Forefront Arts has added Performing Arts Day Camps. These camps feauture 5 self-contained days of creative & performing arts activities.  You can enroll your child in 1 to 5 days based on your family’s schedule!  Each day will feature an informal performance or creative exercise which will be filmed & posted online for your enjoyment.

Today, I wanted to walk you through all the themes they are offering this summer. Each camp is lead by professional actor instructors. Also, a portion of Forefront Arts proceeds will go towards sponsoring a child in Bali and supporting an orphanage in India. (Additional note: Forefront Arts is offering scholarships to foster families here in Georgia.)

For specific dates, times, cost, and location visit their master schedule by clicking here.

“Beauty and the Beast”

It’s a tale as old as time! Belle, the Beast, Gaston, Lumiere the Candlestick, Cogsworth the Clock, Mrs Potts, Chip the Teacup, and all your other favorite characters will be onstage performing the classic fairytale musical in all it’s splendor. Be our guest, and join us this summer in an enchanted castle in the forest.

The camp show will feature many well-known songs from the original Disney cartoon, and be completely family-friendly!  We’ve removed any scary elements from the camp script (wolves in the forest, etc) and focused on the wonderful characters and musical numbers that have made this story a classic!  Campers will love performing in big group numbers like “Belle” and “Be Our Guest”!

Perfect for boys, girls, & anyone with lots of energy!  Everyone will be safe, supervised, & get to save the day and perform cool action sequences!

“Superheroes, Stage Combat, & Stunt Training”

Calling all superheroes and actors who want to save the day! You know those famous action stars in all the popular superhero and action movies?  Most of them started their acting training while they were in elementary and middle school, and learned how to perform acting scenes and fight choreography live onstage before they transitioned to film work.  And now your child can too!  Specialized combat and stunt instructors will lead the campers in physical exercises and train them how to safely choreograph and execute a “fight scene” while being completely safe and self-controlled. The acting instructors will coach students in acting scenes (no singing or dancing) from popular hero and action films, and original scripts based on characters created during the camp week. Each age group will receive stunt training & acting instruction for their appropriate level, all culminating in a live performance of good vs evil and an epic battle scene onstage featuring superheroes of all ages!

“The Sound of Music” Song & Dance Revue

There are so many wonderful and well-known songs in this classic musical and this summer your child can perform them all! In our revues everyone gets an opportunity to be featured onstage in big and small ways as we perform all of your favorite musical numbers!

Our script will focus on the wonderful relationship of Maria and the Von Trapp family, and all of the corresponding songs.  We’ve removed the darker moments from the film (Nazis, hiding in the Abbey, etc) so that our camp show will be family-friendly for all!  Whether it’s the preschool campers performing as Marionettes in “The Lonely Goatherd,” the full cast singing “My Favorite Things,” or Maria leading the children in “Doe, a Deer,” this is sure to be a favorite camp week for your family!

Work on comedic timing, duo scenes, stand-up comedy routines, create sketch routines and larger than life characters, and play tons of improv games! This is your child’s chance to perform in the funniest show of the summer, crafted by the campers so each week’s show is completely fresh!

Every camper will work on a comedic monologue, duo scenes and well-known comedic routines like Monty Python, the Three Stooges, and Abbott & Costello, and work with the group to design an end-of-the-week improv show with scripted sketches, improv games, & audience participation!

Your child will create princess crowns and pirate masks and do lots of play-acting as characters who live in castles, ships, and everywhere in between.  In this summer drama camp, your child will follow a treasure map to find a hidden treasure chest with fun goodies inside and put it all together into a performance for the end of the week.

Creative Dramatics campers (ages 3-6) will experience the daily themes under the direction of a specially trained Creative Dramatics Teaching Artist who will guide and support the children to engage at their appropriate level (writing their original stories as they tell it to her, directing the group in a group acting piece with prompted speaking lines, etc).

Why Choose a Forefront Arts Children’s Theatre Drama Camp for your Child or Teen?

Forefront Arts

Why Choose a Forefront Arts Children’s Theatre Drama Camp for your Child or Teen?

Do you want your child to engage her imagination, to be able to play by herself, to read a story and then act it out for you? Do you want your child to boost his confidence, to see the payoff of working towards a common goal and the resulting pride and satisfaction of a job well done? Do you want to give your child a screen-free experience where they can play, sing, dance, create, and learn a full production in just 5 days? Do you hope to help your quiet child gain some self-confidence while feeling safe, learning to perform as part of a group? Or do you have a scene-stealer in your home who was born in the spotlight and loves to perform?

Forefront Arts Children’s Theatre summer drama camps are designed to fill all of those needs! We offer camp experiences for every age and level of experience! Over the past 5 years we have amassed a loyal following for our popular Production Camps with many campers attending every camp we offer each summer.

Our 2016 camp shows are ALADDIN, SEUSSICAL THE MUSICAL, MARY POPPINS, and MAKE YOUR OWN MUSICAL — a brand new camp where campers will select popular songs and create a storyline with characters to tie the songs together. Every week will feature new songs, choreography, storylines and characters as each week’s campers write their own brand-new production!

We love seeing our returning campers grow in their skill level from year to year, and we welcome new campers every summer who bring new energy and excitement to our shows! Our camps start at age 3 and we love seeing campers who started in our preschool camps who are now attending our grade school camps and receiving lead roles based on the experiences they’ve received in our camps over the years! No matter what your level of experience, there is a place for you in our camps and we’d love to have you onstage with us this summer!

Forefront Arts

Shy children in 1st-5th grade who want to experiment with drama games and activities without the pressure of a big performance will love our Drama Discovery afternoon camps. Campers will spend their afternoons playing drama games, learning about Improv and Acting, and designing props, costumes and sets for our Seussical the Musical production camps. They are invited to attend the Production Camp performance at the end of the week as our guests of honor, but there is no cumulative performance component to the Drama Discovery camps and campers are able to participate at whatever level they are comfortable.

Forefront Arts

Preschoolers (ages 3-5) who love to be the center of attention, who love to sing, dance, create, and explore will love stealing the show as part of our Creative Dramatics camps. Each morning they’ll do physical and vocal warmups, play drama games, make up and act out stories, make crafts to go along with the camp theme, play outside, learn about the show of the week, and rehearse several numbers to perform with the “big kids” in the big camp show at the end of the week. On the flip side, Creative Dramatics camps are also a great chance for quiet children to engage in creative games & activities, to sing, dance, and play, and to experience performing for the first time! All of the preschoolers perform as a group so the children can feel comfortable standing onstage with their friends and teachers, and they’ll soak up the applause, attention, and flowers their supportive audience will supply after the show! We love seeing our preschoolers blossom each week and shine under the stage lights!

Forefront Arts

Students in 1st-8th grade are able to audition for roles in our Production Camps each Monday morning. Campers of all levels participate in our camps each week and enthusiasm and determination are the leading factors to casting the roles. Everyone has an equal opportunity to be cast in any role. We love our returning campers but we don’t play favorites. We select camp shows that feature tons of roles at varying levels to accommodate campers of all levels of experience and confidence. If a camper wants a group role to gain some experience without having to sing a solo or learn lots of lines, we can do that. If a camper wants to play a lead role we encourage her to prepare a great audition song ahead of time, come in with a great attitude, and give her absolute best in all of the camp activities!

Forefront Arts

Teen performers (ages 13-20) will love our Summer Stock production of “Mary Poppins”. In just six days (Monday – Saturday, July 11-16) teens will work with a professional director, choreographer and a team of teen advisors to put on an amazing show! Training throughout the week will focus on acting, music, and dance technique incorporating spins, leaps, tap, and stunts (those Chimney Sweeps have got some great moves!) The performances on Saturday night will feature all of the most-loved songs and dances from the show including “Super…” , “A Spoonful of Sugar”, “Steppin’ Time”, “Jolly Holiday”, “I Love to Laugh”, “Chim Chimeree” and “Go Fly a Kite”!

In the past we’ve cast a brand new actor in the lead role because he came in the first day excited to be there, had prepared a great audition song, and it was clear he wanted to work hard and learn everything he could. That’s what we’re looking for in our campers! We will work with campers with no experience all the way up to campers who take private acting, voice, and dance lessons year round, or who have performed with us for years. Everyone has an equal opportunity in our camps! It truly comes down to attitude and enthusiasm!

Our staff are professional actors who love passing on their passion for the arts to our students! We have seen how experience in the arts can shape a child’s self-confidence, their imagination, and their ability to engage with other children. Just like in sports, working towards a theatre production allows children to push themselves, to work as a team, and to see the payoff of a common goal! I mean, who doesn’t love being applauded by adoring family and friends?

In today’s culture where children and youth aren’t given many opportunities to use their imaginations, to create stories and characters, and to engage in free play, Forefront Arts Children’s Theatre’s drama camps are designed to facilitate children using their creativity, working as a group, and exploring their imaginative side they may not utilize every day. In just 5 days our campers learn a complete show, which is pretty incredible. Every week our audiences are astounded by what the children pull off!

With a convenient location in Johns Creek and 4 camp shows to choose from, we hope to see your child or teen in our camp this summer! We offer a 10% sibling discount, and EVERY camper receives 30% off for their 2nd, 3rd, or 4th camp week. So if you want to do all 4 shows, you’ll save a bunch of cash!

Forefront Arts Drama Camps

We are excited to announce our partnership with Forefront Arts! They are providing 3 great opportunities for your kids to go to a fun summer camp this summer.

Forefront Arts drama camps feature acting, improv, creative play, singing, dancing, designing, and more. Our camp instructors are professional actors and every camp week culminates in a public performance. We are offering TWO productions this summer in Cumming AND Johns Creek: “How I Became a Pirate” and “Yellow Brick Road”!

Our smallest performers (preschool-rising kindergarten) can take part in an exciting half-day Creative Dramatics camp. Each day we’ll do warm-ups, play theatre games, make up stories, sing and dance to music, create costumes and props for the show, and practice for our big performance on Friday!

Performance Campers (rising 1st grade – age 14) will experience the entire production rehearsal process: auditions to find the perfect role for each student, blocking rehearsals, character development, memorizing lines, music and dance rehearsals, and finally, performing the show for an audience of family and friends!

In addition to rehearsing the show campers will play fun theatre games, learn warm-ups, and do crafts. The camp will expose students to many aspects of live theatre including movement, music, blocking, theatrical makeup, and set and costume design. All levels of experience are welcome.
