Winter Break Survival Guide:  Things to Do in Forsyth County

Forsyth County Schools are closed for 11 days over the Winter Break.  When you add the weekends in, it means the kids will be home 17 days straight.

I am completely thrilled to have my kids at home for such a long period.  The days will be filled with staying up late, sleeping in (hopefully) and we’ll be so busy with family fun & activities that those 17 days will seem more like just a few!  But the truth is – they’ll also get bored.  They’ll start to fight with each other.  And on December 27th, they’ll likely complain that they have nothing to play with.  Sound familiar?

So, we’re sharing a round-up of ideas and fun in Forsyth County, be sure to check out our Calendar of Events for a full listing.

Mid-Winter Break Survival Guide

Forsyth County Schools are closed for 3 days beginning this Friday (and assuming our Inclement Weather day sticks around between now & then).  When you add the weekends in, we end up having 5 full days off!

I must admit, I’m pretty excited to NOT be setting the alarm for five days straight!

It looks like it will be pretty chilly most of the break, but then again who knows.  We had a picnic several weeks back so it’s certainly possible.  But in the event it’s too cold to hit a playground or ride bikes on the driveway, we’ve rounded of a list of some Indoor Fun to keep YOU warm & the KIDS entertained!

MLK Day: Fun Around Town

On Monday, Forsyth County Schools will be closed in observance of the Martin Luther King Jr Holiday.  There are many events taking place in & throughout Atlanta to celebrate the day.  If you’re looking for some of those events, be sure to check out our friends at Atlanta with Kid.  They have a great listing of MLK Day:  Kid-Friendly Events.

No specific MLK events around town, but if you’ll be staying in Cumming & Forsyth County & looking for something to do just to have fun with the kids on their day off, check out some of these opportunities:

Adventure Kids:

Usually closed on Monday, Adventure Kids will be open from 10am to 5pm.  It’s just $5 for unlimited play.  Later that evening, they will also be hosting an Open House for their new Kid Fit Program – DoJo Karate.  So stick around from 5pm to 7pm if you’re interested in that.

See a (Discounted) Movie:

Beauty & the Beast will be out!!  I might be more excited than the kids (and they’re pretty excited)!  If you haven’t heard, it’s being re-released in 3D.  Which I actually hate, maybe even despise, 3D movies but I might have to make an exception to see this one in the theatre with the kids.  And icing on the cake?  “Tangled Ever After” is the “short” before Beauty & The Beast.  Meaning we get a small peak at the lives of Rapunzel & Flynn – two more of my family’s favorites!!  It doesn’t appear to be playing at Movies 400 (Carmike), but will be at AMC Theatres.  *UPDATE – It is actually listed on Movies 400 website (but not Carmike) and appears to also be showing in 2D at Movies 400.

AMC Theatre Tips:

  • Showtimes before Noon are just $6 (but if you watch Beauty & the Best, get ready for that $4 upcharge for 3D – ugh!)

Carmike/ Movies 400 Cinemas Tips:

  • Matinee Showtimes include most movies up to 6pm for just $5 on Mondays.

No matter what you do, I hope it’s a great day for you!

As always, it’s recommended that you confirm details prior to your visit as information can change at anytime.
