Why Your Young Child Needs Music with Dr. Marie Graham

March 20, 2021 @ 10:30 am - 11:30 am

Music not only provides a powerful emotional experience for children, it boosts their brain power, as well. Dr. Marie Graham will discuss the important role music plays in your young child’s intellectual and kinesthetic development. She’ll also provide applicable tips and ways music can help your young child process information, develop coordination, and build brain power!

A series of programs offered once each month, Know as They Grow is designed for parents of children ages birth to six years of age. Each month, FCPL welcomes early childhood experts to discuss topics that are of interest to parents. Know as They Grow programs take place on FCPL’s GoToMeeting platform. Registration is requested, and an email with login information will be sent prior to the program.

Having earned her Doctor of Musical Arts in Music Education degree from Boston University, College of Fine Arts, Dr. Marie Graham is a thirty-year veteran music educator. She is a Kodaly specialist in music education and taught Kodaly Methodology courses for Denise Bacon, founder of the Kodaly movement in America. She also served as an elementary school principal in the state of Vermont. She held positions as a cantor/conductor of youth and adults choirs in churches in Boston, MA, and Charlotte, NC, and was the guest clinician for the National Pastoral Musicians convention on children’s choirs, Boston, MA. Additionally, she has directed numerous large scale musical productions including Peter Pan, Oliver, The Music Man, Dream Girls, Pippin, West Side Story, Once on This Island, and Les Miserables.
