Cumming Swimmers Compete

The annual Eric Shanteau Open Water Swim was held last weekend at Lake Lanier. As LIVESTRONG’s first Open Water Swim, Swim For Your Life allows swimmers of all ages to celebrate life, meet and interact with Olympians and come together for an open water swim. Both swimmers from out of state and many of our own Cumming swimmers competed in the 500 yard, 1K & 5K swim events.
Several of our Cumming Swimmers stood out. Matthew Wood (12) placed 5th in the 5K swim in a strong field. Mia Shaffer (11) placed 16th in her first open water 5K swim, Emily Shue (13) placed 17th. Will Isenberg (13) placed 8th in a large 1K field, Ben Isakbayev (10) placed 4th in the 500 Free and Tyler Robbins (10) placed 3rd in her age group. Special mention for Tyler’s mom, Ammee Robbins, who placed 1st in the Adult 500 event.
This was the first open water swim for our local swimmers who train at the Cumming Aquatic Center with the North Georgia Aquatics swim team. North Georgia Aquatics is accepting new swimmers of all abilities to try out for the year-round swim team.
Everyone had a great time for this worthy event and we look forward to next year’s event.
