A Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting is planned for March 3, 11:00 am, concurrent with the kickoff of March Art Madness member show and sale. Speakers will be Commissioner Pete Amos and Chairman of the Forsyth County Arts Alliance, Laura Pate.
The Sawnee Association of the Arts is dedicated to providing a rich visual arts experience for all Forsyth County residents. SAA seeks to foster a culture of creativity, innovation, and imagination through the support and appreciation of the arts.
SAA was founded in 1974 and has continued to serve the Forsyth County community as a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. Currently with over 100 members, it is moving forward this year to establish a venue for the arts and a place that residents can visit and participate in the arts experience.
The association’s membership creates and presents their forms of art in many mediums. Artists and artisans work in pottery, ceramics, photography, metal sculpture, fiber, blown glass, glass fusion, wood, hand-made jewelry, and paintings in acrylics, oils, mixed media, watercolor, 3-D and pastels.
SAA has a long and rich experience of organizing arts events and programs. The 2015 Christmas Festival at Lanier Tech drew over 8,000 visitors and 100 vendors. The March Art Madness members’ show and sale and the Colors of Fall juried art exhibit and sale are annual events. On April 23, SAA will partner with the CFUMC Festival of Arts to sponsor a Young @ Art festival focused on children’s art and education. Young @ Art and is partly sponsored by a grant from the Georgia Council of the Arts. The University of North Georgia, Cumming, will sponsor its second SAA Gallery Exhibit in September.
This endeavor will take grants and donations to finance and the commitment from our members and community to participate with support and enthusiasm. Forsyth County will be enriched by the Sawnee Arts Center with arts for all ages and backgrounds to experience the “awe and wonder of art.”
