Monster Energy Supercross and AMSOIL Arenacross Converge for Historic Doubleheader when “Motofest” Comes to the Georgia Dome
Action-Packed Weekend Celebrates 25 Years of Competition in Famed Venue
ATLANTA (October 21, 2016) – Feld Entertainment® revealed details today surrounding the inaugural “Motofest – The World’s Greatest Motocross Festival,” one of the most historic events in the 40-plus year history of stadium motorcycle racing. For the first time ever, Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, and AMSOIL Arenacross will compete in the same city, at the same venue, on the same weekend with a landmark four-day spectacle to celebrate 25 years of racing inside Atlanta’s legendary Georgia Dome, February 24-27.
Tickets to “Motofest – The World’s Greatest Motocross Festival” are on sale now and can be purchased by visiting the official site of either Monster Energy Supercross (SupercrossLive.com) or AMSOIL Arenacross (Arenacross.com).
Monster Energy Supercross hosted its first round of the championship inside what was then the largest domed structure in the world during the 1993 season. Since then, the Georgia Dome has been the site of some of the sport’s most memorable moments, including the largest recorded attendance in Supercross history of 71,009 in 2012, and the “Duel in the Dome” just two seasons ago in 2015. As a result, Atlanta, and the Georgia Dome specifically, has become the proverbial home of the sport in the southeast region. Nearly 1.5 million fans have been on hand to witness Monster Energy Supercross at the Georgia Dome over the last quarter century, and “Motofest” will surely add to its incredibly rich legacy in the sport.
The first collective assembling of the world’s fastest riders under one roof will kick off on Friday, February 24, when AMSOIL Arenacross makes its Atlanta debut. This will serve as the seventh round of the 2017 season, marking the critical halfway point of the 14-round championship. After an afternoon filled with practice and qualifying, the action officially gets underway on Friday night at 8:00 p.m. ET on a challenging four-lane track layout on the famed Georgia red clay.
Before any of the racing gets underway, fans will have one exclusive opportunity to meet and get autographs from both Monster Energy Supercross and AMSOIL Arenacross riders for the first time at the pre-race Track Party from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. ET. This will not only serve as the single-best opportunity to see all of the sport’s fastest riders in one place, but will also be the chance to walk the track and feel the most infamous dirt in the sport. Joining the likes of Ryan Dungey, Ken Roczen, Gavin Faith, and Chris Blose will be the “Legends of the Dome,” an elite collection of former Georgia Dome winners, including “The King” Jeremy McGrath and “The GOAT” Ricky Carmichael.
On Saturday, February 25, Monster Energy Supercross takes center stage with its eighth stop of the 17-race championship. While the world’s premier off-road motorcycle racing series practices and qualifies for its 25th season of competition inside the Georgia Dome on Saturday afternoon, AMSOIL Arenacross stars will also make their presence felt at the hugely popular Fan Fest from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. ET. When the racing gets underway that night at 6:30 p.m. ET, the biggest names in AMSOIL Arenacross will be featured on the live broadcast on FS1 with Ralph Sheheen, Jeff Emig, and Jenny Taft, while the battle for one of the most prestigious wins in Monster Energy Supercross unfolds.
The action-packed weekend will also feature Amateur Supercross on Sunday, February 26 when the fastest amateur competitors in the country will compete on the same track as their professional counterparts for a once-in-a-lifetime afternoon of racing. A full slate of action will provide a loaded day of competition, featuring classes for all ages and skill levels. “MotoFest” will conclude on Monday, February 27 with Ricky Carmichael University.
In total upwards of 1,000 riders will converge in Atlanta for one of the most memorable weekends in two-wheel racing history.
