Have you ever wanted to change the world but felt overwhelmed by the number of people you’d have to affect in order to make a difference? Mother Teresa once said, “If I look at the mass, I will never act. If I look at the one, I will.” The organization Just One Africa, an international nonprofit that works with local leaders in Kenya to provide sustainable solutions for vulnerable children and those affected by the clean water crisis, did just that…they looked at the ONE. Since 2012, they have helped over 140,000 people in Kenya receive safe, clean water through their Clean Water Program. It all started with wanting to change the life for ONE person by providing the ability to have safe, clean water. The best time to start thinking about the ONE is now! March 22nd is World Water Day. Since 1993, World Water Day has provided education for people to become aware of the Clean Water Crisis and provided the opportunity for people to take action in making a difference. According to the WHO/UNICEF, “some 2.2 billion people around the world do not have safely managed drinking water services.” Lack of access to clean water affects hygiene, education, and health. Diseases that can be easily avoided with clean water, take a toll on the bodies of those who don’t have access and in many cases causes death. Just One Africa’s Clean Water Program combats these issues by providing clean water through the distribution of water filters, training, and hygiene education in parts of central and southern Kenya.
