Forsyth County Fire Department Announces Third Annual Fire Safety Poster Contest

Third grade students encouraged to participate

The Forsyth County Fire Department is once again inviting local third grade students to display their artistic talents while promoting a commitment to fire safety by participating in the third annual Forsyth County Fire Safety Poster Contest.

“We have had a great response in the first two years of holding the Fire Safety Poster Contest,” Division Chief Jason Shivers said. “We look forward to hopefully receiving even more poster entries this year.”

The Fire Safety Poster Contest is open to all third grade students in Forsyth County public and private schools and home-schooled students. Three winners will enjoy a pizza party with their class and local firefighters. The three winners and three runners up will have the honor of having their artwork displayed in county buildings.

Forsyth County Fire Chief Danny Bowman noted that the contest is a great way to increase fire safety awareness while involving the community’s students.

“One of the Fire Department’s goals is to prevent incidents from occurring through public education,” Bowman said. “This poster contest is just one way we work to achieve that goal. It serves as a great opportunity to engage our students in a very positive way.”

All third grade students in Forsyth County are encouraged to submit their own original designs and artwork. Clipart and copyrighted characters or logos will not be accepted.

Posters should be created on paper (minimum dimensions of 8.5″ by 11″ and maximum dimensions of 18″ by 24″) with the required release form securely attached to the back. Posters will not be accepted if they are on poster board.

Posters should be submitted no later than March 15, 2013 to the following address:

Fire Department of Forsyth County
Attn: Edward Siggelkow
3520 Settingdown Road
Cumming, GA 30028

A panel of five judges will begin judging the submissions on March 18, 2013. All artwork submitted becomes the property of the Forsyth County Fire Department and may be reproduced.

The release form and other contest information can be found on the Fire Department page of the Forsyth County Web site at www.forsythco.com.
