Christmas in Cumming, GA

This activity is on my family’s list of “things to do” this Christmas Season!

“Christmas in Cumming Georgia” is the largest private Christmas display in Forsyth County.  According to their Facebook page, this year’s display features 160,000 lights over four houses!!

Not only is it 160,000 lights strong, but it’s also set to music!!  How fun is that!?!

But maybe the best part?

The Residents of Bryn Ridge Court do not do this to make a profit.

In fact they don’t even charge visitors at all!

Instead?  They accept donations which all go to the Forsyth County Family Haven Shelter.

So, save your gas & lots of money traveling out of Cumming to see the lights and invest right back into the county!
For more information, visit their Facebook Page.

Show Hours:
Monday – Thursday:  5:30 to 9:00pm
Friday – Sunday: 5:30 to 10:00pm
Runs through New Year’s Night.

Let the Countdown Begin!

Can you even begin to believe that tomorrow is December 1st?

Did you catch that?  Tomorrow is DECEMBER first!  As in Christmas is just twenty-five days away.

One fairly new tradition in our house is to use a variety of Advent Calendars to countdown the days until Christmas Morning.   These calendars can be handmade or store bought.  They can be crafty, beautiful or kid-friendly.  They can be inexpensive or the opposite.  For our family, we prefer a little of all of the above.  Last year we made two different versions.   This “Bubble Wrap Advent” had to be the ultimate favorite of my five-year old son.  What little boy doesn’t love to pop these bubbles?  And when it’s combined with counting down towards Christmas Morning, it’s a win-win!

My personal favorite is this “Chewing Gum Advent“.  We passed several of these out as unexpected Grandmother & Teacher Gifts.

But the one I look forward to the most is just our little box/drawer countdown.  In each draw we stuff little candies, treats or fun activities to do together as a family.  All the activities we chose are very inexpensive in nature.  A lot do not even cost anything at all.  But they all require one thing – spending time together.  During the hustle and bustle of the season, it’s easy to get caught up going here & there & everywhere.  But these little activities remind us (and at times force us) to spend some time together – just us.

Some activity ideas include:

  • Bake Christmas cookies or treats together.
  • Have a family Christmas movie night.
  • Make a Christmas craft together.
  • Visit some unexpected friends or relatives.
  • Go to a church or school play.
  • Make Christmas cards together.
  • Drive through local neighborhoods looking at the lights.
  • Roast marshmallows in the fireplace.
  • Read the Christmas story.
  • Shop for others together.
  • Visit Santa.

Let your children help you come up with some activities too.  They’ll probably enjoy those the most!

Do you have some special holiday activities that your family looks forward to each year?  Share some of your ideas with us in the comments below!

Market Place Christmas

The Market Place Christmas is an afternoon of fun on Market Place Boulevard, Saturday December 4th.

Festivities begin at 3:30pm with the Cumming Christmas Parade & Festival.  Businesses, churches, schools & bands will parade down the street.  The street will be lined with spectators young & young at heart!  This is a really fun event for children to see decorated floats and characters and just a great way to officially kick of the December events and season!

The parade concludes at Hwy 20 where everyone is invited to view the annual tree lighting at Northside Hospital.   The tree is already up and ready to be lit.  This has definitely become a very fun tradition.

And driving down Georgia 400, the Northside Hospital Forsyth Tree has become synomonous with the Christmas season

Refreshments, entertainment & the tree lighting ceremony begins at 4:30pm.
