DESCRIPTION:Visit the library to explore Rightfully Hers\, a new popup exhibition from the National Archives commemorating the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment. \nRightfully Hers contains simple messages exploring the history of the ratification of the 19th amendment\, women’s voting rights before and after the 19th\, and its impact today. Despite decades of marches\, petitions\, and public debate to enshrine a woman’s right to vote in the constitution\, the 19th Amendment – while an enormous milestone – did not grant voting rights for all. The challenges of its passage reverberate to the ongoing fight for gender equity today. \nThis traveling exhibit will be on display at all Forsyth County Public Library branches: \nAugust 2 – September 1\, 2020: Post Road Library \nSeptember 5 – October 1\, 2020: Sharon Forks Library \nOctober 5 – October 31\, 2020: Hampton Park Library \nNovember 3 – November 30\, 2020: Cumming Library \nRightfully Hers is presented in part by the Women’s Suffrage Centennial Commission and the National Archives Foundation through the generous support of Unilever\, Pivotal Ventures\, Carl M. DESCRIPTION:Join Jeremy Katz as he delves into Southern Jewish History. Jeremy will speak on the Jews of the American South and how families\, culture\, and life succeeded\, particularly in Georgia and Atlanta. From the schooner William and Sarah that brought the first Jews to Georgia in 1733 to the modern tapestry that is modern-day Jewish life in the South. \nJeremy Katz\, Archives Director\, holds a B.A. degree in History from The Ohio State University and a M.A. degree in Archival Science from Wright State University. Mr. Katz’s involvement in the archives field includes work at Wright State University Special Collections and Archives and most recently the American Jewish Archives. Mr. Katz joined the archives staff at the Breman Museum in March of 2013\, where he has been working to grow\, preserve\, and increase access to the Cuba Family Archives for Southern Jewish History. \nThis program will take place on FCPL’s GoToMeeting platform.
