SUMMARY:Appetizing Reads
DESCRIPTION:Enjoy an evening of literary discussion and meet new friends! Appetizing Reads is Sharon Forks Library’s new evening book club for adults that will meet at Zoës Kitchen at The Collection of Forsyth. \nShared appetizers will be provided courtesy of Forsyth County Public Library Friends & Advocates. You are not required to purchase additional food or drinks but are welcome to if you so choose. Space is limited\, as we will meet in the private room at Zoës Kitchen\, located in The Collection of Forsyth\, at 410 Peachtree Pkwy #260\, Cumming\, GA 30041. \nWednesday\, October 9 at 7:00 p.m.\nForce of Nature by Jane Harper\nWhen five colleagues are forced to go on a corporate retreat in the wilderness\, they reluctantly pick up their backpacks and start walking down the muddy path. But one of the women doesn’t come out of the woods. And each of her companions tells a slightly different story about what happened. Federal Police Agent Aaron Falk has a keen interest in the whereabouts of the missing hiker. In an investigation that takes him deep into isolated forest\, Falk discovers secrets lurking in the mountains\, and a tangled web of personal and professional friendship\, suspicion\, and betrayal among the hikers. But did that lead to murder? \nWednesday\, November 13 at 7:00 p.m.\nAn Absolutely Remarkable Thing by Hank Green\nIn his much-anticipated debut novel\, Hank Green\, co-creator of Crash Course\, Vlogbrothers\, and SciShow\, spins a sweeping\, cinematic tale about a young woman who becomes an overnight celebrity before realizing she’s part of something bigger\, and stranger\, than anyone could have possibly imagined. The Carls just appeared. Coming home from work at three a.m.\, twenty-three-year-old April May stumbles across a giant sculpture. Delighted by its appearance and craftsmanship–like a ten-foot-tall Transformer wearing a suit of samurai armor–April and her friend Andy make a video with it\, which Andy uploads to YouTube. The next day April wakes up to a viral video and a new life. News quickly spreads that there are Carls in dozens of cities around the world–everywhere from Beijing to Buenos Aires–and April\, as their first documentarian\, finds herself at the center of an intense international media spotlight. Now April has to deal with the pressure on her relationships\, her identity\, and her safety that this new position brings\, all while being on the front lines of the quest to find out not just what the Carls are\, but what they want from us. Compulsively entertaining and powerfully relevant\, An Absolutely Remarkable Thing grapples with big themes\, including how the social internet is changing fame\, rhetoric\, and radicalization; how our culture deals with fear and uncertainty; and how vilification and adoration spring from the same dehumanization that follows a life in the public eye. \nWednesday\, December 11 at 7:00 p.m.\nBorn a Crime by Trevor Noah\nThe compelling\, inspiring\, and comically sublime story of one man’s coming-of-age\, set during the twilight of apartheid and the tumultuous days of freedom that followed\,” – Amazon.com.\nNoah’s path from apartheid South Africa to the desk of The Daily Show began with a criminal act: his birth. Born to a white Swiss father and a black Xhosa mother\, at the time such a union was punishable by five years in prison. As he struggles to find himself in a world where he was never supposed to exist\, his mother is determined to save her son from the cycle of poverty\, violence\, and abuse that would ultimately threaten her own life. With an incisive wit and unflinching honesty\, Noah weaves together a moving yet searingly funny portrait of a boy making his way through a damaged world in a dangerous time.

SUMMARY:Book Chat
DESCRIPTION:Join us at the Sharon Forks Library for Book Chat\, a casual conversation group for adults. \nNovember’s Conversation Starter:\nMonday\, November 11\n10:30 a.m. \nCarnegie’s Maid by Marie Benedict\nClara Kelley is not who they think she is. She’s not the experienced Irish maid who was hired to work in one of Pittsburgh’s grandest households. She’s a poor farmer’s daughter with nowhere to go and nothing in her pockets. But the other woman with the same name has vanished\, and pretending to be her just might get Clara some money to send back home. If she can keep up the ruse\, that is. Serving as a lady’s maid in the household of Andrew Carnegie requires skills she doesn’t have\, answering to an icy mistress who rules her sons and her domain with an iron fist. What Clara does have is a resolve as strong as the steel Pittsburgh is becoming famous for\, coupled with an uncanny understanding of business\, and Andrew begins to rely on her. But Clara can’t let her guard down\, not even when Andrew becomes something more than an employer. Revealing her past might ruin her future — and her family’s. \nDecember’s Conversation Starter:\nMonday\, December 9\n10:30 a.m. \nLess by Andrew Sean Greer\nReceiving an invitation to his ex-boyfriend’s wedding\, Arthur\, a failed novelist on the eve of his fiftieth birthday\, embarks on an international journey that finds him falling in love\, risking his life\, reinventing himself\, and making connections with the past.

SUMMARY:Nourishing Body Wisdom - 8 Simple Strategies for Increasing Metabolism
DESCRIPTION:This presentation focuses on 8 simple strategies to increase your metabolism\, energy\, and pleasure without restrictive diets or punishing exercise. Most of us have been told that if we want to lose weight\, we need to eat less and exercise more. The problem with this approach is that it doesn’t work for everyone. However\, when it does work and we do lose weight\, the weight doesn’t stay off\, and an even bigger problem is that\, when it comes back\, we usually gain more than we started with. This leads to the chronic diet epidemic in our society. Certified Eating Psychology Coach Sherri Zak will share the scientific reasons for this along with 8 simple strategies for real change. If you want something different\, you have to do something different. \nAbout Sherri Zak \nSherri Zak is a mom\, a business-owner\, an animal-lover and a money-managing ninja. At one point\, overwhelmed by family and business demands\, Sherri reached an all-time low and began taking medication for anxiety and depression. Driven to find alternatives and get back on her feet\, Sherri studied everything she could get her hands on about healthy living and plant-based nutrition. She lost almost 30 pounds\, got herself off of the toxic anxiety medication\, is now living a life she loves\, and is inspired to help others do the same. With a strong background in business and a passion for nutrition and women’s health\, Sherri knows what it takes to get out of the clutches of overwhelm and reach the other side feeling more alive than ever. As a certified Eating Psychology Coach\, Sherri has an unyielding commitment to stand by her clients and do what it takes to help them reach their goals.

SUMMARY:Stories Behind Georgia Place-Names - A Book Talk with Cathy Kaemmerlen
DESCRIPTION:Ever wonder how Rough and Ready got its name? Or what Stonesthrow is a stone’s throw from? And surely the story behind Climax can’t be…that thrilling\, can it? The curious Georgian can’t help pondering the seemingly endless supply of head-scratching place names that dot this state. Luckily\, the intrepid Cathy Kaemmerlen\, author of Georgia Place-Names from Jot-Em-Down to Doctortown\, stands ready to unravel the enigmas—Enigma is\, in fact\, a Georgia town—behind the state’s most astonishing appellations. Cow Hell\, Gum Pond\, Boxankle and Lord a Mercy Cove? One town owes its name to a random sign that fell off a railcar\, while another memorializes a broken bone suffered by a cockfight spectator. And just how many place names were inspired by insolent mules? Come on in to find out. \nCopies of Georgia Place-Names from Jot-Em-Down to Doctortown will be available for purchase and signing. \nAbout Cathy Kaemmerlen \nCathy Kaemmerlen is a professional actress\, storyteller\, playwright\, author\, and historical interpreter\, known for her variety of one-woman shows and characters. Through her own production company\, Tattlingtales Productions\, she created and currently performs\, along with other actors she employs\, more than thirty in-school curricular-designed programs. A recent honor was performing her one-woman show about Rosalynn Carter for the former first lady and President Carter. A Hambidge fellow for more than twenty years\, she has now five published books. She lives in Kennesaw\, Georgia\, with her husband\, Robert Gaare\, and two cats\, and she is the mother of three wonderful children and has three granddaughters\, who are her greatest delight. Check her out at www.cathykaemmerlen.com or www.tattlingtales.com. For more stories about her travels while researching this book\, you can check out her blog at www.tattlingtales.com/blog.
