I Hate Cancer …

“I Hate Cancer.”

That’s certainly not an uncommon thought.  Cancer is one of those words that sets an emotion off for everyone.   For some, we think about someone that is currently fighting cancer.  For others, it’s someone that is in remission.  And still for others it’s someone that died from the disease.  Some can even think of people in each of those categories.  That “someone” is a son, daughter, mother, father, son, sister, friend or even yourself.

For me, two people first come to mind – my friend that died from Hodgkins in 1993 and my Aunt that died in 1999 from what started out as breast cancer.  I wrote about my feelings 10 years after loosing my Aunt, here.

But even with the heartbreak of loss,  I know that research is done every day that is ultimately saving lives!  Researching that is giving many friends and loved ones a second chance.

Many of those that need a second chance right now, are in our community … in Cumming, GA & Forsyth County.

I have been in awe, as I have watched the Stick It 2 Cancer team raise OVER $40,000 (FORTY-THOUSAND DOLLARS) towards Cancer Research.  Their original goal was $40,000.  But when they surpassed that last week they didn’t stop.  They just raised the bar instead!  They are joining in this weekend’s Light the Night Walk (Georgia Chapter) for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS).   This will be the first time the event has taken place in Cumming.  And the Cumming walk (at Cumming Fairgrounds) will join walks all over as they raise funds for lifesaving research that has contributed to major advances in the treatment of blood cancers & treatments for other types of cancer, such as chemotherapy & stem cell transplants.

I have a Challenge for You:

I know we all have different organizations and non-profits that we give to – either on a regular basis or throughout the entire year.  But if we join in together, it won’t take much.  What if every Cumming Local Facebook fan gave just $1?   We’d donated over $1000 to the Stick it 2 Cancer’s donation.  What if we each gave just $2.  Or even $5.  It doesn’t have to be much.  Can we help them reach their goal by this weekend’s walk?

Will you consider giving?  The Stick it 2 Cancer team is made up of our neighbors & local businesses in Cumming & Forsyth County.  But the funds will go to help cancer research & fight a disease that we all hate!!

So, Cumming Local Readers … can we give?  Click here to donate.

Freeze Cancer – Fundraising Event

We’ve got a GREAT reason for you to enjoy some delicious fro-yo this week!

On Wednesday, July 20th from 4pm to 10pm, our friends at Menchie’s Cumming Marketplace will be donating 20% of all processed to Stick it 2 Cancer.

Stick it 2 Cancer is a team of everyday people, just like you & me, with a very strong mission – to raise $40,000 for cancer research through the inaugural North Metro Light the Night Walk on October 1st at the Cumming Fairgrounds.  They are all about doing good and having fun at the same time!

You probably know someone very close to you (if not yourself) that have been touched by cancer in some way.  I definitely have.  So why not eat a little Menchie’s in their honor or in their memory this Wednesday and help join in the goal of the Stick it 2 Cancer’s team goal!

When: Wednesday, July 20th – 4pm to 10pm
Where: Menchie’s Cumming Marketplace – 905 Marketplace Blvd, Cumming 30041
