Christmas Break Survival Guide

Forsyth County Schools are closed for 11 days over the Winter / Christmas / Holiday Break.  When you add the weekends in, it means the kids will be home 15 days straight.

I am completely thrilled to have my kids at home for such a long period.  The days will be filled with staying up late, sleeping in (hopefully) and we’ll be so busy with family fun & activities that those 15 days will seem more like just a few!  But the truth is – they’ll also get bored.  They’ll start to fight with each other.  And on December 27th, they’ll likely complain that they have nothing to play with.  Sound familiar?

If you have extended family in town or if you’re just looking to explore some fun things with you friends and immediate family, it might be a great time to check out some fun things right here in town.

Glazed & Fired: Cumming’s Painting Studio

Painting Studio in Cumming GA

Beginning in September, Glazed & Fired will be offering two new painting class options:

painting studio in cumming ga

Courtesy of Glazed & Fired

Whether you have a little one that just loves to paint or you or someone in your house wants to learn more about the essentials, Glazed & Fired and Art Instructor Jeanne Matey are offering two new classes that you’ll want to make note of.  One is pop-in class designed for ages 5 & up.  The other is more “intensive” and requires a 4-week commitment but is designed to teach some key essentials.

Pop In Canvas Sessions:  First Tuesday of every Month, 3:30pm until 5:00pm

Your child can choose from one of 10 paintings to paint on the 12×12 canvas, with instructional guidance from artist, Jeanne Matey.  Colors can be changed to meet individual taste.  Classes are appropriate for ages 5 and up.  Reservations and payment in advance are required.  (Minimum 5 students per class).

$30 per child

Essentials of Painting:  4-Week Session, 3:30pm until 5:00pm beginning September 8th

On Thursday afternoons in September, join Glazed & Fired for a class designed for the more “serious” artist, interested in learning the essentials of painting.  Students will gain a basic understanding of the colorwheel and why certain colors look better together than others, different types of paint brushes and strokes, when to use one brush over another, color mixing, etc.

Each student will complete their very own wheel and two 16×20 canvas paintings during the 4-week session.

Classes are appropriate for ages 8 & up.  Reservations & payment in advance required.  (Minimum 5 students per class).
Class begins Thursday, September 8th.

$120 per student

Glazed & Fired is our Host for the upcoming Cumming Local Girl’s Night Out on Thursday, September 22nd – Have you purchased your ticket??

Glazed & Fired featured Plum District

This past weekend my 5-year old son and 2-year old daughter were thrilled with excitement to give both their grandmothers a little piece of handmade love.

We had visited Glazed & Fired – a new paint your own pottery & canvas studio in Cumming – the week prior.  They had so much fun picking out their pieces & their paint colors.  I on the other hand tried to resist “correcting” their little masterpieces!

If you haven’t stopped by Glazed & Fired yet, we’re passing along a perfect reason to give it a try!

The deal buying site Plum District is featuring the studio today.  Snag a $20 voucher for just $10.

This will be a great place to spend a hot summer afternoon, a rainy day or any day for that matter!

Visit Plum District to snag this voucher and also subscribe to stay in the loop for future offers as well!
