It’s time for another Community Foods Order

If you’re not familiar with Community Foods, let me start with a little background first -  It’s actually based in Cumming, GA but they offer deliveries throughout Metro Atlanta. The overall concept is that they sell products – Chicken (hormone free, no steroids, etc.), Ground Beef (all natural, no hormones, etc.) and Fish (now Tilapia, Cod & Salmon).

It’s easy to become a customer, you simply visit their Delivery Calendar, add to your cart, purchase online & then drive to the pick-up location you select on the day & time specified. Not all products are sold at the same time. I haven’t totally figured out their delivery cycle yet, but it seems that each item might come out for delivery once a month or maybe once every other month.

Now for those of you that placed your first order last month when CHICKEN came out, you probably cursed me when it arrived!!  It’s ok, I’ll get over it.  Because remember I said “I have never ordered their chicken, so I can’t speak from experience.” … that was your warning!!  So if you gag while you were cutting all FORTY lbs of raw chicken while having your hands all in the nasty junk, well … I was right there with you.  BUT – I did save my family a lot of money and I have PLENTY of chicken in my freezer now, so I’m happy!

The good news though is now it’s time to order FISH!! I have ordered the Tilapia (Tilapia only, not Salmon or Cod yet) and was super impressed with it. It was flash-frozen & individually wrapped. It comes in large filets – 5 to 7oz and is really pretty in color & it was perfect for sharing or splitting with friends. The Tilapia has also tasted great!! We all eat a lot of it – even my three year old.  And since it’s individual it’s easy for even me to pull one out for lunch.  The order form says that the Tilapia & Salmon are individually wrapped.  It does not say the same for Cod, so if you’re interested in that & need to know how it’s packaged first … contact Community Foods.

2012 has brought me a task of super mommy epic proportions.  Or, that is, my husband Jeremy has charged me with coming up with a grocery budget of $400 while still eating locally grown, organic food.  “Oh, that will be easy honey!” I say as I bite my lip and grab a pen and paper.  One thing that makes budgeting so easy with local food is that it’s a flat rate with no extra tax.  I know exactly to the dollar what my grocery bill will be!  OK, I have THAT going for me….but not much else!

Feeding a family of 4 good wholesome food on $400/month, is…a stretch.  BUT, I have to do it, so I thought I would share this information with you!  I am sure many of us are in  budget crunch mode.  Truth be told, I could sacrifice quality and have more money for…what…snack food?  McDonald’s?  But, what good will that do for our health?  NO, I am staying the course and enforcing our whole food lifestyle, and I am super mommy, budget green extraordinaire, and I am going to DO THIS!

Local Non-Profit Acknowledges Cici’s Pizza for Support

Faith’s House Inc., whose purpose is to empower single moms to better their lives through providing links to community resources and higher education acknowledged Scott Edwards, owner of Cici’s Pizza on Ronald Reagan Blvd., with a plaque thanking them for their ongoing support of donated pizzas.

Cici’s has supported our mission by donating dinner for our monthly meetings since 2008. This donation gives our families at least one night where they don’t have to worry about dinner.

Our Single Mom Meetings are on the first Thursday of each month, we meet at the Mentor Me North GA location. The group meets from 6:30-8pm, childcare provided by Mentor Me and Dinner provided by Cici’s Pizza Buffet.

United Way of Forsyth County serves you the 3rd Annual Flavors of Forsyth on its new date – Sunday, May 20, 2012 from Noon – 6:00pm. Presented by Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and UPS, this festival of food will benefit nonprofit organizations and programs throughout our community. Last year, United Way of Forsyth County provided $1,291,154 in funds to 60 programs and initiatives in the community, providing services to thousands.
At its new location, outside the Forsyth Conference Center on the campus of Lanier Technical College, Flavors will play host to over 30 local restaurants dishing out delicious samples to over 15,000 festival-goers. From pizza and ice cream to barbecue and sushi, there is something to satisfy every palette.

Local chefs will participate in contests for Best Appetizer/Salad, Best Fast Dining Entrée, Best Casual Dining Entrée, Best Fine Dining Entrée, Best Dessert and Best Booth. Guests can also vote for their favorite restaurant to be the Flavors of Forsyth People’s Choice winner.

New this year – Kid’s Choice Award! Visit the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta tent for your child to cast a vote for their favorite flavor of the day.

Meander through the Artists Market and enjoy the beautiful work by talented local artists or catch the beats from local performers on the main stage. This year’s lineup includes Audio Candy, Riley Biederer and Last Five Standing. 92.9 Dave FM will also be at this year’s event.

Have children? Don’t miss out on the fantastically fun Kids Zone which will include balloon artists, inflatables and more!

From fine dining to on-the-go, there is a flavor for everyone to enjoy. Come eat, laugh, play and support United Way of Forsyth County at the 3rd Annual Flavors of Forsyth!
