The Top 5 Lawn Care Myths Debunked by USA Land Care

The Top 5 Lawn Care Myths Debunked by USA Land Care

The Top 5 Lawn Care Myths

Debunked by USA Land Care

Let’s talk some lawn care truth before the lawn care myths. We all want to have the greenest grass on the block, right? If you want to have the greenest grass, then you need to take care of your grass. Ways to take care of your grass includes, but are not limited to: cutting weekly, watering, and feeding the lawn. USA Land Care can help you with the feeding of your lawn. And we would love to give you a free quote for our maintenance program. Today we thought it would be fun to debunk some common lawn care myths that are floating around.

Lawn Care Myths

#1 – You need to water your grass heavily during the hot summer months.

During the summer months in Georgia, we will get summer showers in the afternoons. You need to make sure you are paying attention to the weather. If it’s a good soaking rain, then you may not need to water your grass the next morning. Over-watering can create shallow roots and under-watering can dry out the grass roots. We recommend that you water in the very early morning because when you water later in the day, the water is just evaporating. We also recommend that you water 2-3 times a week. The goal is for the yard to get 1 inch of water per week.

Lawn Care Myths

#2 – All grass is created equal

The truth is that all grass is not created equal. Do you know why? Well, we are going to explain it to you. First of all, it starts with the soil and all soil is not created equal. Soil contains all different types of nutrients. For this reason, before we start treating a lawn – we will do a complex soil pH test to find out what nutrients the lawn needs. Secondly, there are many different types of grass that grow in our area. You can email us at to obtain a time for us to do a soil pH testing. We will take a sample of your soil and send it off to a lab. Once the results come back, we will go over them with you as well as complete a plan to move forward with.

Lawn Care Myths

#3 – You should bag your clippings.

Most people think that it’s best to bag your clippings after you cut your grass. But that’s actually not true. The rumor mill tells us that grass clippings contribute to thatch in your yard. The truth is that grass clippings are mostly water and they decompose rather quickly. They also provide some good nutrients to the fresh cut grass and the soil.

Lawn Care Myths

#4 – Lower your blade to cut your grass very short like a golf course.

The golf course grass is cut super short so it only makes sense to cut your grass short too, right? Actually no! The proper height actually depends on the season. And don’t think a shorter cut yard means less cutting. Grass that is cut too short is more susceptible to weeds, drought, and even heat damage. And you don’t want to leave your grass too long because then you open it up to disease and an ideal habitat for insects. Here is a good rule of thumb – you never want to remove more that 1/3 of the total grass length. To find exactly what length to cut your grass, you can search by your specific grass type. During summer, it’s best to let your grass be a little longer so it can hold on to moisture.

Lawn Care Myths

#5 – The most important time to fertilize your yard is in the spring season.

There are actually two times a year that are very important to the health of your grass. The first time is late spring just before your grass kicks into full gear. And the second time is late summer or very early fall. And you are in luck because we can help you with this. With our maintenance services – we will help control weeds, fertilize the grass, control lawn disease, and much more. Contact us directly to get a free and personalized estimate.

We hope you have enjoyed these top five lawn care myths being debunked by USA Land Care. If you are looking for a lawn care service, USA Land Care would love to be your company. Summer Learning Tips from Pinecrest Academy!

Summer Learning Tips from Pinecrest Academy!

Research has shown that most students risk some degree of learning loss in the summer months. But the end of a school year doesn’t have to mean that learning stops. The relatively unstructured days of summer are perfect for family activities and adventures that keep learning fresh and practice necessary developmental skills, all while having fun together.

Below are a few suggestions for some fun summer learning:

  1. Develop and Practice Essential Skills. Summer provides great opportunities to teach kids important life skills, like how to read a recipe, sort laundry, tie their shoes, make a grocery list, load the dishwasher or write a letter. Being able to follow several steps in a process is an essential developmental skill that translates to success in school. Make a list of three new skills that your children could learn this summer, and challenge them to follow all the steps to success!
  2. Read, Read, and Read. Kids lose an average of two months of reading skills over the summer, but there are many ways to prevent this by incorporating reading and writing into your summer plans. If you are traveling this summer, have your child help you plan the trip by researching the place you will visit, plot the trip on a map, and act as a tour guide by providing the family with fun facts along the way. Choose a read-aloud book that both you and your child will love, and read a little together each night. Stop along the way to predict what will happen next. Discuss the plot, unfamiliar words, and the choices the characters make. These reading comprehension strategies will make your child a stronger reader and provide some sweet “together time.”
  3. Break out the Board Games and Puzzles. Board games and puzzles are excellent ways to develop critical thinking skills! Teach your kids those board games you loved as a kid, especially the ones that involve word or math skills. Pop some popcorn and break out Scrabble, Uno, Boggle, or Monopoly. For a fun twist, use the same game boards, but have your child make up new games and come up with new rules. Puzzles are also great for learning and practicing fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, shape recognition, and patience. See how many puzzles the family can do in one summer!

Keeping brains engaged with summer learning will insure both a fun summer with your kids and a “brain boost” as they enter the new school year!

Once Upon A Child Cumming Ga & Forsyth County

Save BIG with Once Upon A Child Cumming!

I’m thrilled to be able to share with you all about Once Upon a Child in Cumming GA. If you haven’t been to Once Upon a Child Cumming – I recommend you go check them out ASAP! Last week, I had the opportunity to go by the store with some clothes and toys to sell and a list of items to buy. Before I go into my experience, let me share with you an excellent video (that the owner, Steve, filmed) which gives you a sneak peek into the store:

An Experience at the Cumming Store

Like many of you, we did a major spring cleaning a few weeks ago at my house. Most of the things we didn’t need anymore, I donated to the local charities in Forsyth County. However, there were a few things that I thought I might be able to sell. I gathered them up and headed to Once Upon a Child (located across from Kohl’s and Target at Market Place Blvd, Cumming). Upon arriving I was greeting by friendly staff, who gave me plenty of instructions. While I waited for them to look through my clothes and toys, I browsed the store. The biggest thing I noticed is that the store is organized beautifully. My favorite part was the shoe section. IOt was incredibly easy to find my children’s sizes and it just looks nice all organized that way in bins. Here’s a photo-

All of the clothes were organized by gender, size, and then color. This store was perfection to me because of how I like things nice and neat. But I thought the organized by color was an added bonus. If you are looking for a red shirt, it’s easy to find them! Bows – did I mention the bows? They are also a GREAT deal at $1.99 a piece!

The toys section was also easy to look through. All of the toys and books are organized by type – learning, musical, etc.

About this time I was called up because they were done looking at my stuff. To my surprise, they took a little over half of it. Note – it wasn’t a lot of stuff. But I earned around $20! Once Upon a Child has reasonable prices as well. I was able to purchase 2 pairs or flip flops (name brand and with tags), sunglasses, shorts, and a few shirts using my credit plus $4. Now that is a DEAL!

Daily Deals

Speaking of deals, Once Upon a Child has daily deals all through the week. Be sure to follow them on Facebook to be reminded of them.

Wacky Wednesdays – They always post the special on their Facebook or Instagram accounts. But it could be anything from $5 off to 25% off and everything in between.

Contests – Currently, they are running a contest to win a $100 gift card for mother’s Day. Click here to enter

Introducing Essential Wellness Chiropractic at Vickery Village

My family and I have been seeing Dr. Marchman for over a year now for chiropractic care. Chiropractic care has made a HUGE difference in my overall health as well as my family’s health. I’m truly one of Dr. Marchman’s biggest fans. She is an excellent chiropractor and a dear friend! And as a bonus, my kids absolutely adore her. That’s why I’m so thrilled to share with you a special message from Dr. Marchman today.

The following is an announcement from Dr. Marchman of (formerly) Vickery Chiropractic:

“I am so excited to share the new branding of my chiropractic office.  Allow me to introduce you to Essential Wellness Chiropractic!  I have NOT moved locations, we are still in the same building in Vickery Village.  But we have a new name, new number, new website, even new staff and new software!  The name comes from two words –  essential means “absolutely necessary” and wellness is defined as “an approach to healthcare that emphasizes preventing illness and prolonging life, as opposed to emphasizing treating diseases.”  If you know me, you know this defines my goal to a tee!  I truly believe God put me on this earth to serve as a chiropractor in hopes of not only decreasing pain for individuals, but also increasing wellness of families in my community.  Everyone deserves to live life to the fullest and it is my honor and privilege to help people do just that.  As always, thank you for your support!”

Whether you’ve never been to a chiropractor or you’re looking for a new-to-you doctor, if you give Essential Wellness Chiropractic care with Dr. Marchman a chance, I have a feeling you’ll find her to be very warm, knowledgeable & professional.  She is always incredibly timely with her appointments – which is very important when you’re talking about sitting in a waiting room with children! More About Cynthia, The Sweet Home Bakery:

As a diagnosed Celiac, with life threatening food allergies, I understand firsthand the frustration of never being able to just waltz into a bakery and buy something to sink your teeth into.  I also know too well what it’s like to have a fun evening with friends turn into a horrible night in the ER.

I was diagnosed prior to food labeling regulations.  Eating out was trial and lots of error. There were no physicians who could point me in the right direction to regaining my health, so I began studying alternative medicine and nutrition.  My eventual practice as a Professional Herbalist employing functional medicine, gave me years of clinical experience using the nutrition of real food to optimize health.  I authored The Get Real Cookbook, to help my clients find a solid foothold and thrive.  Clean eating is a wonderful thing, but life needs a little indulgence now and again!  The Sweet Home Bakery is here to help with that.
