10 Things to Do this Fall in Cumming GA & Forsyth County

Top 10 Things to Do this Fall in Forsyth County | Fall Fun Activities in Forsyth County

Fall is by far my favorite time of year.  Except when Christmas rolls around.  And then I’ll say Christmas is – ha! But there are always lots of great things going on during the fall season.  We’ve compiled a round-up of what we consider to be 10 Things to Do in Forsyth County this Fall.  But actually, I’d say these fall fun activities are not just “10 things to do”, but “10 things you must do”!

In no particular order, here we go …

Catch a High School Football Game:  If you go often, this seems like a no brainer.  But if you’re like me, and haven’t been in years it’s definitely something to put on your calendar!  After getting over the sticker shock ($7 per ticket) we were set to have a fun time!  And a fun time we did!  The nights are getting cooler so make sure you’re prepared with blankets and warm clothing!  All Forsyth County High School games are listed on the Cumming Local Calendar.

Cumming Fair in Forsyth County | Fall Fun Activities in Forsyth County

The Cumming Fair:  It’s that time again!  The annual Cumming Country Fair & Festival will be in town October 4th – October 14th.  Advance ticket sales are available for purchase now and you can actually save a few dollars this way.  I actually think it’s best to experience the Fair two times during the week – once during the day and once late in the evening.  Totally different experiences both times!

Kinsey Family Farm:  The Kinsey Farm opened up for its Fall & Pumpkin Season on Saturday, September 15th.  They’ll be open for all their Fall Activities through October 31st.  It’s definitely a fun way to spend some time – pumpkin purchases, hayrides, barn animal feeding, picnic area & more!

Warbington Farms:  Don’t make the mistake of associating Warbington Farms with strawberry fields only.  While they most definitely have awesome strawberries, their Fall activities make our list too!  Pumpkins, Hay Rides, Petting Zoo, and farm fun!  The fun starts September 29th.  And mark your calendars for their annual Pumpkin Palooza on October 13th – live music, vendors & more.

Fall Festivals:  This season is FULL of festivals at churches, schools, and businesses through Forsyth County.  Our calendar is already packed with lots of events going on but as we get closer, more and more will be added.  Click here to view the Calendar of Events.  And if your church, organization, or business has an event you want to share with the community click here to submit your event.

Haunted Fun:  It doesn’t have to be all sweet pumpkins this time of year.  If “haunted” is more your thing you’ll want to definitely check out the Stars & Strikes Haunted House – happening every weekend in October.  The grounds are “spooky by day” (recommended for ages 8 and under) and “frightfully freaky” by night (recommended for 12 & up).  Click here for all the details.  {At time of posting, the Stars & Strikes Haunted House Groupon was still available}.

pumpkins | Fall Fun Activities in Forsyth County

Pumpkin Picking:  Sure you can pick up a pumpkin almost anywhere, but make it special – try one of the local “pumpkin patches” & help support a local organization, ministry or business.   Pumpkins can be purchased at Kinsey Family Farm, Warbington Farms, Midway United Methodist Church (current start date provided is 9/28) and Cumming First United Methodist Church (current state date provided is 9/29).

Adventure Kids:  Adventure Kids has a LOT going on this fall.  Every Friday night during October hangout from 7 to 10pm for “Friday Night Boo” – glow in the dark fun in a spooky Adventure Kids.  Admission is just $10 for all the fun, plus one bumper car ride, pizza & a drink.

And definitely don’t miss the Monster Bash – it’s their biggest event of the year!  Saturday October 27th at 4pm, enjoy AK play, cookie decorating, face painting, pumpkin painting, carnival games, costume contests for silliest, cutest, & craziest costumes and more!   With Glow in the Dark fun & music beginning at 8pm.

Forsyth County Playgrounds:   I think this is the perfect playground weather (most days anyways).  It’s usually not too hot but not too cool.  And a nice breeze always feels good too!  Definitely take advantage of non-rainy days and enjoy this weather at some of the Forsyth County Parks.  Click here for a listing and for some personal thoughts on some of them too.  And it’s definitely a great time of year to “take a trip to Sawnee Mountain

Fall Fun at Your House:  Don’t take this one for granted!  Rake up the leaves to jump in & play, bake fall treats, make some fun fall crafts with the kids, decorate some pumpkins, camp in your back yard or make a fun fort in the living room.  Just spend time together and enjoy one another!

What would you add to this list?

Fall Fun

fall pumpkins | Fall Fun in Cummings GA

The fall season is probably one of my favorites.  I love the cooler weather, the clothes, the changing colors of leaves, the yummy fall food and all the activities that go along with the new season.

There are so many wonderful things to do this time of year.  And so many things, right here at home in Cumming, GA!  For the full, ever-changing, ever-adding list, check out our Calendar.  But here’s a few things we’re highlighting around town.

Cumming Country Fair and Festival | Fall Fun in Cummings GA

The Cumming Fair

Ten days of down home country fun!  Great food.  Great rides.  And a little something for everyone.  The fair comes to downtown Cumming on Thursday, October 6th and the Fairgrounds will be lit up through the 16th.  Hours and specials vary each day.  Check out all official information at The Cumming Fair website.  And check out our Top Ten Tips if you’re new to the area or to the Fair.

Kinsey Family Farm | Fall Fun in Cummings GA

Kinsey Family Farm

Take just a short drive to Northern Forysth County in Gainesville and visit Kinsey Family Farm.  You can make a morning or afternoon out of all the fun offered.  Not only can you pick out the perfect pumpkin, but you can also enjoy a hayride, feed the catfish, shop in the Fall Harvest Shop, and definitely get some great “pumpkin” photos with the family!

In addition to “regular” orange pumpkins, you’ll find decorative pumpkins – like red, white & even green.  You’ll find “pie” pumpkins and gourds too.

Fall fun activities are open til October 31st.  Activities include:

  • Hay Rides:  $2 per person (children 2 & under are free).  Hours vary.  Check their fall activity page for information.
  • Barn Animals & Fish Feeding:  Purchase fish food for $1 and feed the catfish.  These are HUGE and my kids have always loved feeding them in the past!  You’ll also find an animal pavilion to feed the farm animals as well.
  • Picnic Area:  There is no charge to use this area, so bring your own lunch or purchase some snacks and drinks in the concession area.

And don’t forget to stop in the Fall Harvest Shop before you leave.  You’ll find honey, salsa, North Georgia Apples, Jams & preserves, fall decor & more!

Visit their Fall Harvest Page for hours & more information.

Stars and Strikes | Fall Fun in Cummings GAHaunted Houses

If you’re looking for something a little more spooky this fall season, you have a few options in town.

  • Stars & Strikes is hosting “Hallo-Fun” every weekend in October.  It’s spooky by day (recommended for ages 8 & up) and frightful by night (recommended for ages 12 & up).  It costs just $7 per person and includes access to additional Stars & Strikes fun.  All proceeds benefit a local charity.  Visit the Stars & Strikes Website for more information, hours & additional prices.
  • The Haunted Lodge is a historical slaughterhouse of Georgia’s most famed butcher, l0cated on Castleberry Industrial Drive.  Ticket prices are $12 for adults & $10 for students.  Concessions are provided by Pier 29.  Visit the Haunted Lodge Facebook page for hours and additional information.

Local Fall Fun Festivals

The Calendar is filled with local fall fun festivals.  More seem to be added every day.  Here’s a few to make note of:

pumpkins | Fall Fun in Cummings GAPumpkin Purchases

Earlier this week, we asked a question on our Facebook page to find out where everyone was purchasing their pumpkins this year.  Here are some of the more popular answers:

  • Warbington Farms – located in Cumming, the Farm is open daily.  Also mark your calendar for October 22nd when they’ll host a “Pumpkin Palooza” from 10am to 5pm.  It will include hay rides, petting zoos, face painting, music, food & more!
  • Market 334 – Stop in at Market 334 (just off the Cumming Square), Tuesday through Saturday and find the perfect pumpkin.  While you’re there, shop inside their fun Artisan Boutique and find hand-crafted funky finds, unique clothing, accessories, jewelry, home decor, natural soaps, folk art & so much more!
  • Cumming First United Methodist Church – once again, the “big hill” in front of CFUMC is filled with orange!  The patch is open daily from Noon until dark.  Proceeds support children’s & youth ministries at CFUMC.
  • City Produce – Located across from Dairy Queen at the square, City Produce is stocked with pumpkins, gourds, and other fall veggies & decor.
  • Stars & Strikes – They’ve set up a patch outside.  Haven’t been there myself, but that’s what readers are saying.

So, what did we leave off?  Tell us some of your favorite places to visit around Cumming in the fall!
