Girl’s Night Out :  Wrap-Up

It’s been a little over a week since we hosted our Girl’s Night Out.  You grabbed your girlfriends, you grabbed your tickets, you grabbed your babysitters, and you came out for a fun time!  I was honored that you decided to spend your free time at our event. As a Mom of young kids, with a husband that travels and works a lot, I know what it’s like to have to pick & choose your free nights very carefully.  For some of you that was your free night for the week, for others it was your free night for the month, and again I say – I’m honored that you decided to spend it with us!

The goal was to provide you with a fun night out – food, freebies, samples, giveaways, even some free pampering & such.  And I hope you took advantage of the great offers and services that our sponsors provided for you.  The biggest way to thank our sponsors for the night is to remember them in the future! Scroll through the list below & like some of them on Facebook, write a quick note on their page to say thank you or let them know what you enjoyed.  And then be sure to check out their products and services again in the future!

We also want to send a big thank you to the vendor that hosted us – The Warehouse Venue.  Located at the Midway Family Festival, The Warehouse Venue was a great location for us to start with a clean space & then fill it up with tables, vendors, and a great group of girls.  The Warehouse Venue is 10,000 square feet of space and provides an affordable yet modern-trendy venue in Forsyth County.  It can be configured as a Banquet Room, Auditorium, or Standing Room.  Take advantage of their amenities such as stage, audio/ video / computer media, food preparation area & ability to bring in your own caterer!

But The Warehouse Venue isn’t just for grand events.  Smaller meeting and conference rooms are also available for daily rent – even a billiards room!

And I can’t mention The Warehouse Venue, without also reminding you it’s also home to Land of 1000 Hills Coffee @ The Warehouse.  Located within The Venue, Land of 1000 Hills is a great little coffee shop (serving up coffee for an AWESOME cause).  It’s open Monday – Saturday 8am to 9pm.  It’s a great place to meet up with a girlfriend, someone for work or to just get some work done yourself.

Admission is just $5 per person – you can mingle, eat, enter giveaways and browse for no additional charge!

But be sure to bring your purses because we have lined up a great group of Vendors and all are bringing great products & great prices.  Many will have complimentary services or free samples to take advantage of during the night.  And lots will have giveaways at their own tables so make sure you browse at each.

Pledge Local

When I launched Cumming Local a little over a year ago, it was from a desire that I had for myself & for our family. I didn’t see the point of driving into Roswell, much less downtown, when there were so many great shops & restaurants right here in Cumming GA & Forsyth County.  I wanted the money we spent on our purchases to actually stay in the county that we live & work in.  The county that our children go to school & play in.

I also had a strong desire to help small business owners – the ones that were trying hard and working hard to provide great services & programs to families just like mine living here.  I wanted the money from our purchases to help a small business owner provide for their personal family here in Forsyth County, not help provide another company jet for a large corporation across the US.  I wanted to help spotlight the local store that may not be open 24 hours, have every color or size of every item that you’re looking for, but the ones that do provide personal, one-on-one attention.

Does that mean I’m against all large businesses in Forsyth?  Surprisingly, no.  I’m not.  Those large companies help employ a lot of residents & bring a lot of tax dollars to our county.  So to me, “shop local” definitely means support locally owned small businesses, but it also means if you’re going to shop at a large corporation shop at one in Forsyth County!

Take the Pledge

After a year of being focused on “becoming more local”, I’ve definitely made progress in my attempt & desire to support locally owned businesses; however, there’s still plenty of improvements I can make.  There’s still lots of locally owned businesses, restaurants, shops & services my family hasn’t tried yet.  So I’m taking a pledge.  To do in better in 2012.  To support a new-to-me, small local business each month.  To give a small local business a try.

Will you take the pledge with me?

It doesn’t involve a huge commitment or a lot of pressure.  It’s just a pledge to try.  Give at least one new locally owned business in Cumming GA or Forsyth County a try.  Maybe it’s a new restaurant, a new gym, a new service provider or store.

When you take the initial pledge & then renew your pledge or commitment each month, you’ll be eligible for some special giveaways!  As the “Take the Pledge” initiative grows, we’ll continue to add more to it.  I’m excited about where we can take this.

Food Drive Event

Join Us for a Food Drive & Fun Night!

With Halloween behind us, the Holiday Season is officially upon us!  For some of us, that’s exciting and others it’s not.  For local food pantries it’s the time of year that is likely to be their busiest.

Cumming Local is excited to partner with local bloggers, Atlanta With Kid, Atlanta Deal Sites, and Rich Single Momma to bring you Food Drive. This year’s event and Drive will benefit the Food for Thought Project – an organization that I’ve been excited to share with you since its launch.

We think giving should be fun and a family event! So we’re bringing you a fun, family event in the process.
