Stamp Out Hunger in Forsyth County

If you live in zip codes 30040, 30041 or 30028 – simply place a bag of non-perishable food items at your mailbox on May 10th &/or 11th.  As your letter carrier delivers mail, they’ll collect your items which will then be distributed to local food banks in Cumming & Forsyth County!

The Cumming Post Office will also collect donations between May 6 and May 11th at their Tribble Gap Road location.

Last year, 10 Food Pantries, in our community benefited from the 18 tons that was collected!!

Event Description

Come out and get doused with a rainbow of colors to support Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Man and Woman of the year campaign. The campaign hopes to raise 650k dollars in 10 weeks!! You can run, jog, walk, crawl along the scenic route with no worries since it is truly a fun run. Let us get colorful to stamp out blood cancers.

May 25th – 8am

Directions

This approximately 100-acre park borders the Chattahoochee River and features a canoe launch. Two pavilions, more than two miles of walking trails and a river-themed nature-inspired playground are also included at Chattahoochee Pointe. The entrance to the park is off of Old Atlanta Road, approximately 0.4 miles south of the entrance to Olde Atlanta Club.

JP Jam at Warbington Farms

Come to the farm at Warbington Farms for a special night, in loving memory of John “J.P.” Hammond.  The event will raise funds for a scholarship to Waypoint Center – a local men’s recovery center in Dahlonega.  Lots of live bands, special speakers and farm fun for the kids including – a petting zoo, inflatables, sky lanterns, crazy hair, and great food too!

POLO GOLF & COUNTRY CLUB CELEBRATES 25th ANNIVERSARY BY SUPPORTING THE WOUNDED WARRIOR FOUNDATION

Cumming, GA
― Polo Golf & Country Club, a Heritage Golf Group Property in Cumming, Georgia, is pleased to announce that it is celebrating its 25th Anniversary this year.

To commemorate the Club’s upcoming 25th Anniversary, Polo Golf & Country Club has unveiled a new logo, planned special events throughout the season and the Club will feature specialty logo merchandise which will be available in the golf shop for Members and guests.

Polo Golf & Country Club’s first official event of their 25th year Anniversary celebration will be the 2.5 Mile FUN RUN held on April 27th at the Polo Golf & Country Clubhouse. The race will be open to the community and club membership is not required to participate.

As part of Polo Golf & Country Club’s continued commitment to make a positive impact in the Cumming Forsyth community, a $500 donation will go to the Wounded Warrior Project on behalf of the Fun Run.  The Wounded Warrior Project is a non-profit organization supported by PGA TOUR Players Boo Weekley, Jason Gore and Nick Watney dedicated to providing unique, direct programs and services to meet the specialized needs of severely injured service men and women.

Spaghetti Dinner & Fundraising Event to Benefit Food for Thought in Cumming GA

Join Mia’s Pizza & Eats for a Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser benefiting Cumming’s Food for Thought Project.  Cumming Local is a huge fan of the Food for Thought Project – an amazing organization in Cumming GA and Mia’s is a big supporter of their efforts.  This is sure to be a great night for a great cause!

Event Details:

April 29, 2013 from 4pm to 9pm.
Tickets are $15 (+tax) for adults. Children under 10 are $10 (+tax).
Spaghetti dinner tickets do not include sales tax or gratuity.
Tickets are for dine-in or take-out only.  (No refunds)

For your ticket price, you’ll receive a small house salad, a large bowl of spaghetti with marinara sauce (meatball/sausage optional), crusty garlic bread, and your choice of sweet tea or unsweetened tea or soda. Alcoholic beverages are regular price. Children’s dinners include a bowl of spaghetti (meatball optional), crusty bread, and a drink. Gratuity is not included in the ticket price.

About Food For Thought:

25% of your purchase price will go directly to the Food for Thought Project, a family-run nonprofit devoted to ending hunger in the North Georgia area. Since they began their nonprofit they have collected and distributed over 55,000 pounds of food. That’s roughly 25 tons!

Join the beremedy student-led club of Lambert High School for a day of fun, all with a great cause!

The beremedy Zumbathon is an hour and a half Zumba (dance exercise) class led by a professional Zumba instructor. All proceeds will benefit Forsyth Family Haven.

Registration Fee – $15

The registration fee is $15 and can be done through Active.com by searching “beremedy zumbathon” (click here)or paid for at the door. Local businesses will host booths at 11:30am and Zumba will start at 12:30 and run until 2:00pm. This form of exercise is typically recommended for age 12 and above. Wear appropriate exercise clothes and come ready to have fun!

beremedy (be-remedy) is a new, innovative, and student-led club at Lambert High School that has the goal of “seeing the need and being the remedy” within the community. They work solely through social media to connect those in need with those who can help by taking needs from their school social work (such as diapers or protein shakes) and then using their social media platforms to ask followers and friends for donations. Those who can fill the need simply reply and become the remedy. This will be their first fundraising event, for the charity of choice: Forsyth Family Haven.

Our friends at Act Together Ministries need our help! Can you sponsor a child for Christmas this year?  They’re looking at one of their biggest Christmas Seasons just around the corner!

The United Way and Toys for Tots have come alongside Act Together and said they want to help them in their efforts.  Act Together is looking for generous people in the community to sponsor or  “adopt” children in need this holiday season.

With your help, Act Together can make sure the children wake up to find some special gifts on Christmas morning.

Act Together Ministries is a children’s charity that serves children in distress throughout the North Metro Atlanta area. Programs serve foster children, special needs children and children of the working poor. These services expand throughout North Fulton, Forsyth, Cobb, Cherokee, and Gwinnett counties. We provide ESSENTIALs such as clothing and food. We offer EDUCATIONAL support through our Tools 4 School event at the end of the summer and our I CAN program throughout the school year. In addition, we seek to ENRICH the lives of the children we serve by hosting special events and offering sports and extracurricular scholarships. We provide birthday and Christmas sponsorships.
