My journey with this amazing company began over three years ago when I was introduced to the products at a neighbor’s business launch.  Frankly, I went quite hesitantly as I wasn’t a fan of “parties” and I wasn’t looking for a career in skin care, much less Network Marketing.  However, as I learned about the products and business that night, several things struck a chord with me. First, I have very sensitive skin so there weren’t a lot of products on the market that I could use.  The thought that these products were both effective and pure, safe, and beneficial seemed almost unbelievable.  Second,  I was a stay at home mom to two small boys.  I wasn’t really looking for a job but  learning that I could earn an income and still stay at home with them was appealing.  I took the RE9 kit home for three days and I was hooked!

This business has allowed me to be home and watch my boys grow while still contributing to my families income.  I get to work with my best friends every day!  I don’t know what other job I could have where that would be the case.

Brookwood Farmer’s Market – Grand Opening Event

farmer's market in cumming gaIt was this time last year that my family first fell in love with the Brookwood Farmer’s Market.  It became an almost weekly event.  The place we stocked up on grass-fed meat, farm fresh eggs, fresh picked peaches, blueberries, and strawberries.  The place we loaded up on everything from fresh vegetables to homemade breads, cookies, and fresh squeezed lemonade.

It’s also the place my children munched on homemade cookies while they jumped in bounce houses – they absolutely LOVED this kind of “grocery shopping”.

The Market was started by a mom that saw a void in our community.  She took off & ran with it … the end result is something truly great for our community!   It’s offered each Friday evening from late May through mid September (or extended as the case was last year).  From 4pm to 7pm, Rain or Shine. It’s held in the parking lot of Brookwood Elementary School just off Hwy 141.

Then be sure to check out their website each week as they’ll update with any special events or entertainment.  It really is a great combination!

This week, in honor of their grand opening, deGraan Farms will be firing up the grill with their grass fed burgers!  And vendors will be supplying all the fixings.  (Side Note:  The folks at deGraan Farms were my 5yo’s favorite last year.  He’s a real cowboy with all the pictures to prove it & my son loved stopping at his table each week!).

So, give the Market a try … I really don’t think you’ll be disappointed!!

Food Allergy Awareness Week in Georgia

Food allergies in children have tripled in the past decade.   If you don’t have a child that suffers from food related allergies, then this week might not be any different than any other week.  However, if you do have a child (or two) that suffers, then you’re probably already aware of the significance of this week.  Gov. Nathan Deal, along with Food Allergy Kids of Altanta, joined together to announce May 8 – 14, 2011 as Food Allergy Week in GA.

The following is a guest post from Jenni Hilton. She brought this week to our attention & we’re happy she did.  She writes a local blog “Forsyth for Families” to help folks in Cumming, GA find neat activities, deals, and events in the area on a budget. She is also a food allergy mom and can be found on Twitter at @jennihilton.

New Local Bakery, LaCupCakerie, Provides Allergy-Friendly Baked Goods to Community

When Gail Laws’ young daughter was diagnosed with multiple food allergies (dairy, soy, nut, gluten), she started baking safe foods for her family. Soon it expanded to friends, neighbors and referrals. She saw a need for the community and like many families, had previously traveled further to get allergy-friendly products for her daughter.

“We keep a “Kosher style” kitchen. I cannot definitively say “Kosher”, as we are not certified, but we do prepare allergen free / gluten free / diary free/ nut free products in a separate oven, utilizing separate counters, refrigeration, and baking utensils (including spoons, and mixers). It may sound a little extreme to some, but once you have dealt with an Epi-pen and Children’s Hospital, you understand the seriousness of food allergies.”

Gail has provided Gluten Free offerings to several of the local schools (Pinecrest Academy, Kids R Kids, and Taylor Road Middle), and is providing delivery free of charge for Cumming clientele for a limited time. LaCupCakerie is also assisting Food Allergy Kids of Atlanta in the cupcake drive this week for Food Allergy Awareness Week.
